Why are mobile videos so short compared to desktop videos?
Why are mobile videos so short compared to desktop videos?
This video is comedic and designed to be quick and short, there are many videos like this on Facebook and other social media sites. They have to be short because of a number of reasons. Firstly Facebook isn't a video oriented site, it also has many distractions and this means that any viewer is likely to have a short attention span. They are unlikely to be interested in anything for more than a few minutes and so extremely short videos like these tend to be watched more than others and shared more as well. Furthermore since Facebook is often accessed on mobile the viewer might not be sitting down, they might be moving around, going to work or at a friend's house. This in turn means the videos need to be short in order to garner any attention. Since it appeals to a large audience since you might find this funny no matter what age you are at.
On the other hand this video is almost 9 minutes long. it has a very specific audience - those who are interested in the gaming industry and even more particularly games on mobile devices. it is not based on comedy unlike the video above, it is a discussion video that is designed to send a message and evoke emotion. So in many ways it is much more complex than the dramatic chipmunk video, it is able to get this complexity because it is designed to be viewed on desktops and TVs.
