Spaghetti bridge

We built a bridge out of spaghetti today, this was to show us the value of experimenting with ideas and concepts. We went through a few stages of thought to make it, originally simply having two lines of spaghetti across the gap, we then added supportive frames to the design, adding a connection from the bottom and using our plasticine to better hold these supports. Our ideas weren't particularly innovative in comparison to some of the bridges but we felt proud of our design nonetheless. In the weighing contest our bridge was able to hold about 4-5 battery packs showing that it was much more stable than we had anticipated. It came in a close second to the other team’s design.

Audio project summary

New audio techniques for Version 2

Redubbing - where you speak over an existing voiceover to try and mimic its speed while changing the script.

Sound effects - i will use sound effects for comedy e.g. when i say “...sci-fi you think of lasers and explosions” i will add a laser sound effect and a explosion sound effect.

Background music - i will add this into my new version because i didn't have enough time to implement it in my previous project

Documentary comparison

I made some marked improvements in my new documentary, some of these i feel are personal gripes with the previous project but i still see them as improvements. I was unable to change the visual appearance of my project because of technical issues (you can't change animations in premier.)

The big improvement i made was the inclusion of a soundtrack into the whole piece and the use of sound effects to go along with this. I feel the sound effects gave the project a bit of humor and flare e.g. the “i am a robot” SFX i imported from a royalty free site. Furthermore the comical sounds contrast with my more formal commentary and i think this juxtaposition is quite funny. However i also feel these comical sound effects clash a bit with the calmer background music so perhaps this wasn't a good idea.

In my new voiceover i corrected some of the mistakes i made in the previous version. However because i couldn't change the visual appearance of my work my options were limited since i had to follow the speed and length of my previous script to the letter. In the actual script i edited out parts i felt weren't necessary, e.g. rather than “questions like will we all become cyborgs?” i changed the script to “questions like where will our technology take us?” because it sounded less ridiculous and fitted more with the feel of a documentary. These changes were minor but i felt they made a big difference to the quality of the video - though the new script and my voiceover had it’s own problems despite the fact that i repeated the recording it four times.

I feel the background music helped with the aesthetic of the documentary and made it flow better.

BMW advert storyboard

Our idea was to make the advert like this:

A car cruises down a main road but other vehicles are breaking down and crashing around it, the sky is cloudy and planes are falling from the sky, but the car with the baby in it just cruises along easily dodging all the chaos.
The baby laughs at the craziness and as the car drives along it opens up the clouds above it creating a trail of blue.
Then we get a close up of the happy baby and the caption reads "A car so safe a baby could drive"
Then outside the window another car falls from nowhere onto its side.
Then the BMW drives off.

Fashion ideas that inspire me

I like the idea of abstract flowing clothes with intricate designs and subtle colours but these would be too complex to drawn and difficult to edit. Maybe simple minimalist designs would work better since i've got no budget and i can surround them with colour in the editing stage. If it’s going to be minimalist the clothes should be one colour - preferably white and the brand should contrast with this colour.  I want my clothes to be trendy since i don't really want to market smart rich clothes - it goes against my ideas of a good brand - it should market to everyone not just a small segment of society. I want my brand to be accepting of a wide market.

Lookbook reflection

Reflection:
In reflection i think the look book worked well. some people didn't like the saturated look but i think it fitted the brand identity in a striking and vibrant way.

Editing
I was right to put the lookbook in landscape - the photos wouldn't have fit otherwise. I'm glad i didn't add too many photos or a background - this stopped it from looking too garish. I feel the saturation worked well in every photo we took but it clashed to a certain extent with the internet photos - particularly the t shirt and hat.

Layout
I feel the layout is easy to read and digest and i’m glad there's some white space rather than having the photos fill the whole page as some do. I should’ve changed the last page though because it ruins the professional feel of the whole lookbook.

Photos
I should’ve added more photos but we didn't take enough in our original take. Furthermore the ones we did add looked bland and uninteresting which is why i added the intense saturation.

text
My big regret is that i didn't include any writing in the lookbook - which is my strength, maybe i should've included some poetry as other members of the class did.

Mistakes
However in retrospect to the actual brand i shouldn't have made 2 variations of the logo because that creates gender stereotypes on the product and brand - this goes against my aesthetic and ideals. In addition i probably should not have used photos from the internet to furnish my look book since the others in the class didn't.

Furthermore i feel i should've taken more photos with more models in different locations, but i was pressed for time and i think i did well with what i had.

In conclusion it’s not the best look book in the class, it’s not as professional or detailed as some but, i still feel it works well - the brand has a strong identity.

Microphone plan

I decided to use the boom microphone because i knew it would muffle the worst of the background chatter in the room i was recording.
